Five Advantages of Wireless Burglar Alarms

Wireless burglar alarms are the future for retrofit alarm systems, with their security improvements in recent years there is no reason why you would consider a wired burglar alarm system. Because of the hassle and cost of having an alarm installed many people put a dummy alarm box on their house, and there is nothing wrong with this - having an alarm box on the outside of your house is a great deterrent to a potential burglar (at least the opportunist burglar).

Sadly most burglaries are predetermined and if someone’s been sat out the front of your house when you’re locking or unlocking it, it’s not going to be long before they twig that you actually don’t have an alarm. The best bet is to have an alarm fitted to that box. There are two main categories of alarm – wired and wireless - wired alarm systems are still the most used type of alarm system, but it won’t be long before wireless burglar alarms take the market. Here’s five advantages of wireless burglar alarms:

• Cost
  Wireless burglar alarm systems may have a unit cost greater than their wired counter part, but when you add the installation cost on top of it, you’ll see that the overall cost is significantly cheaper than a wired alarm system.
• Convenience
  A wireless burglar alarm are very convenient to install. You’re not going to need to move around furniture, put down dust sheets for a team of fitters to drill holes though walls, for you to then have to patch them up. In fact you may not even need a team of fitters – if you’re reasonable competent at DIY you could fit it your self.
• Security
  There’s a lot of talk about wireless alarm systems being hacked, but it’s going to take a lot of effort and very specialist skills to hack a wireless system. If someone has the skills to hack a wireless burgular alarm system, it’s unlikely that they will need to steal things from your home to make a living. At the end of the day, no system is a 100% if someone wants to get in then they will. Your job is to make there job as difficult as possible.
• Coverage
  Traditional wired systems did have constraints as to where you could put the detectors. If you lived in a traditional building with very thick walls getting a wire to that sensor could be difficult. Getting your outdoor building covered by a wired alarm would also be difficult due to the cabling required. A wireless burglar alarm system gets rid of this problem. You can put a sensor where you want providing it is in range of the keypad. In some cases even this doesn’t need to be a constraint as you can get an intermediate ‘boxes of tricks’ that relay the signal so you can put the detector further away.  With less constraints on where you can put the detectors means that you can get more areas in and around your home covered by the alarm
• Expandability
  Unlike the wired burglar alarm it is very easy to add on extra detectors and sensors if you buy best system that you can to begin with. You may think that you may not want to add anything else, but as the technology develops, the sorts of things that can get detected will increase. At the moment you can already get shock and vibration sensors, broken glass sensors and who know what they will come up with in future. There are not only add-ons to detect intruders there are also detectors for other home emergencies such as flood, fire and carbon monoxide. All of these can be run off the alarm system.
